Mary Kathryn Evans McCormick, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, at the age of 86.
Mary Kathryn, affectionately called “Mema”, was a woman whose life was defined by kindness, strength, faith, and a generous heart. She had a remarkable ability to make those around her feel cared for and loved. Through every season of her life, she remained a source of strength for her family, a loyal friend, and a pillar in her community.
As a hardworking and accomplished businesswoman and an amazing cook, Mary Kathryn dedicated herself to her work and to the people around her. She was deeply committed to her community and was a passionate supporter of Bear Swamp Baptist Church, where her presence, love, and service touched many lives. Her service and devotion were an important part of who she was, and she leaves behind a legacy of faith that will continue through the generations.
Mary Kathryn’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her children, Cristy Evans Arnette (Van) and Tonya Evans Jordan (Stacy); her grandchildren, Amber Jordan (Jamon) and Tripp Strickland (Kearson); and her great-grandchildren, Bailey Jordan, Lillie Jordan, Connor Strickland, and Kendall Strickland. She will be deeply missed by her family and by the many friends, Sunday school class members, and citizens of the community whose lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Levi and Almena Dew; her uncle, Oliver “Jock” Dew; her first husband, Horace “Bud” Evans; her daughter, Tammy Evans; her second husband, Frank McCormick; and her grandchildren, Thomas Jordan and Haley Jordan.
Though her absence leaves a profound emptiness, Mary Kathryn’s love, strength, and generosity will live on in the family she cherished and in the countless lives she touched. Her greatest legacy was founded on faith, the love that she gave and the example she set for those who had the privilege of knowing her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Bear Swamp Baptist Church in Lake View, South Carolina. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 12:00 p.m.
Family and friends are invited to gather together to celebrate Mary Kathryn’s life, share memories, and honor a remarkable woman who will be loved and remembered always
