Mrs. Ernestine Hyman Powell, 87, died Friday, February 16, 2024, at Pruitt Health at the Pines of Dillon, after an extended illness.

A funeral service will be Monday, February 19 at 3:00 p.m. at Kemper Baptist Church of Lake View. The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m., at the church, prior to the funeral service.

Mrs. Powell was born in Dillon County, the daughter of the late John and Bessie Hyatt Hyman. She loved her children as well as everyone else’s children. She ran a daycare for many years and was known as Grandma Tine to all her children. She was a devoted servant of God, whose unwavering faith carried her through all the many trials of her life. She loved flowers and working in her yards. She was talented in so many ways. She was a compassionate, loving lady and never met a stranger, no matter where she went. To know her was to love her.

The family is receiving friends at the home of her daughter, Angie and George Rogers, 2144 Rabbitt Island Road, Nichols SC.

She is survived by her daughters, Jean herring (Johnny), Becky McDonald (Randy), Allie Welch (Alan), Phyllis Spivey (Kenny), Angie Rogers (George), Gwen Miller (Chuck), and Susan Grant (Kirby); sons, Larry King, Steve King (Tammy), Jamie King (Susan), and Dan King; step-children, Louise Edwards, Richard Powell, Bobby Powell and Ronnie Powell; sisters, Doris Owens, Shelby Fiedler, Ella Mae Page; 21 Grandchildren, 31 Great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rosier Powell; sisters, Lois Ann Fiedler, Mildred Jackson, and Anges Hyman; brothers, Edward Hyman, John Hyman, Earl Hyman, and Lewis Hyman; and a grandson, Brandon Black.
