DATELINE: Lake View, S.C.

Mr. Angus Elwood Spivey

Angus Elwood Spivey, fondly known as Woody to many, passed away peacefully in his home on December 2, 2023.

He was born November 7, 1934, in Robeson County. He is the son of the late Wilmer and Corabell Spivey, and is preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Spivey and brothers, Kenneth, Rupert, and Carol Spivey.

He is survived by his loving wife Janice Hammond Spivey, daughter Lisa Jo Spivey, Lauren Hammonds, and sister, Coralee Wilkerson.

He leaves behind nieces and nephews, Betty and Barbara Spivey, Bill and Cab Spivey, Anna Wilkerson, Miguel Castro, Stephanie Hammond, Robert and Everett Spivey and Mary Ann Hovden, Vicki and Greg Hartrich, Jerry, Damien, Cynthia, and Lillian Chamblee.

Other special family members include Stephen, Mandy, Anna, and Jason Vipperman; Horace, Jackie, and Ryleigh Bass; Jeannie Miller and family; and Kristy Sanderson and family.

Elwood was a kind man who was loved and respected by his family and community. He was a farmer most of his life as well as one of the best road graders around. He is famously known for his Red Ford pickup truck he bought in 1975. He loved driving on the back roads. It gave him a sense of peace. The going joke to this day is...if you are broken down beside the road don't worry, Woody would be along soon. He always made his rounds checking to make sure his friends’ homes were safe.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on December 16, 2023, at Bear Swamp Baptist Church in Lake View SC.

In lieu of flowers we ask for donations to Lower Cape Fear Life Care NC or Bear Swamp Baptist Church.
