Betty Ruth Blackman

Mrs. Betty Ruth Blackman died Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at her home in Lake View SC after an illness.

A funeral service will be Friday, December 10 at 3:00 at Bear Swamp Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cooke Funeral Home of Lake View.

Mrs. Blackman was born in Robeson County, the daughter of the late Walter Roland and Estelle Evans Spivey. She was a retired teacher from Dillon District 1 School System where she loved teaching and coaching. She was a longtime member of Bear Swamp Baptist Church. She was also an avid UNC Tarheels fan.

She is survived by her children, Debbi Hunter (Thomas), Teresa Blackman, Ricky Blackman (Stephanie), and Chris Barfield (Jeremiah); sister, Juanita Floyd; grandchildren, Melanie Yeager (Tim), Tiffany Ervin, Brooks Tarte (Chelsea), Ryan Leach, Ricky Blackman II (Katie Ray), Joseph Blackman, Benji Barfield, Taylor Barfield and Brock Barfield; great grandchildren, Brooklyn Tarte, Malia Tarte, Mike Leach, Atticus Leach; great great grandchild, Aubri Inman; extended family Felicia Henberg, Xavier Johnson, and Marquis Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Blackman; granddaughter, Skye Barfield; brothers, W.B. Spivey, Roland Spivey, Bobby Spivey, Tom Spivey and Dan Spivey; and sisters, Cornie Ann Wallace and Sarah Richardson.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bear Swamp Baptist Church.

The family requests that all Covid Guidelines be followed at the visitation and the funeral service.
